National Day of Mourning – April 28, 2017

Demand What Works!

On April 28, the Workers Health and Safety Centre’s National Day of Mourning for workers injured, killed or made ill because of hazardous workplaces exposures takes place. Let’s renew our call for what works and oppose that which does not. De-regulation, employer self-regulation, minimalist approaches to the “worker right to know”, victim-blaming tactics and compensation rebates for simple compliance have no place in Ontario’s health and safety system!

Working people deserve the tools necessary to promote their health and safety on the job.

  • Regulation
  • Enforcement
  • Quality Training
  • Worker Particpation
  • Proper Resources

Message from IBEW Local 804

Political Action Committee

Late last year the Ontario Liberal Government passed legislation putting our trade at risk. Bill 70 Schedule 17 has made changes to the Ontario College of Trade Act.  These changes will allow the Ministry of Labour through the Labour Relations Board to act as an appeals committee to potentially overturn fines issued to unqualified contractors doing the work of certified Journeyman and registered apprentices. It will be a matter of time before our scope of work is a fraction of what it used to be.

IBEW local 804 Political Action Committee along with the Executive Board and the office staff have been working to have corrections made to this ill-advised law.

The Construction Council of Ontario along with the Provincial Pipe trades Council are organizing a rally at Queens Park the morning of Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 9:00 AM. Buses will be leaving the Union Hall in Breslau as well as the Unifor Education Center in Port Elgin.

IBEW Local 804 Union Hall

  • 5158 Fountain St N, Breslau, ON N0B 1M0
